Elisa Ambrogio of Magik Markers

More Top Tracks of 2009

Though we agree (reluctantly) that Danish's list of top tracks from the first third of 2009 is close to perfect, we decided to get a second opinion. And because recommendations from actual musicians are extra special, we asked Derek Miller of Brooklyn's Sleigh Bells to give us his impressions of 2009's pre-summer jams.

Hey TR thanks for asking. I'm not sure how the new Magik Markers stands up to their best work, but "Risperdal" is near perfect. I remember Elisa saying somewhere "If I play ball, I'm playing ball. When I'm on base, I'm on base. You don't tag me out, I tag you out." Fair enough. The Dev79 track is maybe my favorite. The bass sounds pretty incredible in my truck. Probably would have sounded better when my sub was working, but I blew my amp or it shorted. Could just be the fuse. I gotta get it looked at...

His email reached us at 3:39 am last night, so we're pretty sure he wrote it on his Nokia at a bar. In any case, what he came up with is pretty fun, and if you make a playlist of it and send it to your long-distance GF, she is likely to return to you. —WH
